A pilgrim's stop on the Way of St. James. The church contains relics of St. Leonard, the patron saint of prisoners. Pilgrimages to this site have been held since the 11th century; even Richard the Lionheart made a pilgrimage here. A stamp for the pilgrim's passport is available in the church. Superb site, one of the largest artificial lakes in France

Lake Vassivière was created in 1950 to cover the energy needs of France. The dam is almost 33 meters high and 25 meters thick at its base, only 3 meters at the top.

Royère is located on the Millevaches plateau, between Lake Vassivière and Lake Lavaud Gelade. The town is pleasant and has shops and accommodation.

Beautiful reservoir also suitable for camping and sailing. There are also small huts right on the lake
