The Herbettes Canal Bridge is a canal bridge on the Canal du Midi located in Toulouse, 2 km from the Saint-Sauveur port. It carries the canal over the Toulouse ring road. It is the only canal bridge on the Canal du Midi that spans a road. The canal bridge, whose tank is made of steel, is 74 m long and was completed in 1983. In 2008, two valves operated by hydraulic jacks were installed at both ends of the bridge, for safety reasons. This mechanism isolates the canal bridge from the rest of the Canal du Midi in the event that leaks are detected by the probes installed under the deck, in order to prevent flooding of the ring road. In 2017, a complete inspection and a check of the proper functioning of the two valves were carried out. This control of the work is imposed by new safety standards following the AZF disaster of September 21, 2001.
