🏰 Château de Malbrouck (Manderen-Ritzing) A magnificent 15th-century hilltop castle, once the first settlement of Marlborough ("Malbrouck") in 1705. Today, it has been lovingly restored (1991–1998) and is home to changing exhibitions, festivals, and medieval events. Tip: Combine your visit with a walk around the castle—take time to admire the towers, exhibitions, and seasonal events. Ideal for families, history buffs, and culture enthusiasts!

Built in 1647-49 according to plans by Matthias Staudt as a late Renaissance palace for Elector Philipp Christoph von Sötern; restored in the Baroque style by Christian Kretzschmar after a fire in the 18th century. The foyer features 16 terracottas, made by Villeroy & Boch on behalf of Ludwig II for Herrenchiemsee Palace.

Very beautiful castle with sometimes exciting exhibitions and events. At an event organized by the University of Metz, I was able to experience an interesting tour there with a great dinner in the large hall. The meal was accompanied by a lute ensemble.

A nice castle, but you shouldn't expect to find a really beautiful old castle inside. It's more intended for exhibitions. When we were there at Pentecost, there was an exhibition on the Olympic Games. We went there expecting to find a medieval castle, so we were a little disappointed. Nevertheless, the Olympic exhibition was still somewhat interesting for the children.

A beautiful castle that you can visit in its entirety for 7 euros. If you get hungry, you can go to the tavern for something to eat and drink.

The district town owes one of its most beautiful landmarks and one of the most important late Renaissance buildings in Saarland to the Trier Elector and Archbishop Philipp Christoph von Sötern. Between 1647 and 1649, the building now known as the “Stadthaus” was built as an electoral palace. With the concept of the town house, the architect followed French models from the 16th century, the so-called manoir buildings (country, pleasure or hunting lodges), of which the Merzig town house is one of the most important German representatives. Particularly noteworthy are the head emerging from tendrils above the double portal and the keystones decorated with heads above the windows, a popular motif at the time, which Kretzschmar also used in his most famous building, the abbey in Mettlach. The foyer of the town house houses 16 terracottas that were made by Villeroy & Boch on behalf of the Bavarian King Ludwig II for Herrenchiemsee Palace.
