This fountain in Queige might save your day during a heatwave: towards Beaufort, there is no other water point before Villard-sur-Doron.

The view towards the Mont Blanc massif is superb from the Col du Joly, on the border between Savoie and Haute Savoie.

Start of the 20 km climb towards the Cormet de Roselend, via the Col de Méraillet (located at Km 8).

A very nice road for cycling and only moderate traffic. It's busy at the top, even in summer. They want to offer families entertainment and exercise. Not my style at all—but the people in the valleys can earn their living from it.

Beaufort is a charming town with a few cafés and restaurants, surrounded by mountains. The famous Beaufort cheese comes from here. The town is a stopover on the Route des Grandes Alpes.

Beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding mountain scenery. Some of the roads are newly paved, so the ride up and down is fun.

Not much traffic. You can enjoy the climb in peace.
