At the Abbey of Saint-Savin, a sight you'll never tire of awaits: the Gartempe River flowing gently past the ancient stone walls, and the medieval Pont de Saint-Savin spanning the river, with the abbey in the background. This greenway is horrible, in places it is just a forest path... not to mention the chestnuts that inner tubes love.

The abbey is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List due to its comprehensive and well-preserved collection of Romanesque wall paintings. It is worth visiting for that alone. The abbey site has been occupied since at least the 9th century.
