The Royal Abbey of Fontevraud is one of the largest monastic complexes in Europe. Founded in 1101 by Robert d'Arbrissel, this abbey played an important role in the religious and political history of France. You can admire the Romanesque architecture, the tombs of the Plantagenêt kings and queens and the museum's contemporary art exhibitions. You can also enjoy the peaceful gardens and surrounding forest, where you will find plenty of trails to explore. The abbey is open all year round, except Tuesdays in low season.
