Local History Museum

The Église Saint-Omer is a Catholic church located in the commune of Tertry, in the Aisne department. The church was built in the 12th century and is dedicated to Saint Omer. The choir of the church dates from the 12th century, but the rest of the church was destroyed during the First World War and later rebuilt. The church has a massive keep with a square plan and a double-sloped roof, flanked at the front by two enormous towers of five metres in diameter, all in brick, except for the base of the towers in sandstone. The rest of the church, which extends behind the keep, is a parallelogram of stone, with numerous restorations in brick. The church has been registered as a historical monument since 1926.

Tertry was the site of the battle of Tertry in 687, where Pepin of Herstal defeated Berchar, mayor of the palace of Neustria. In 1920, British soldiers built a bridge across the Omignon at Tertry.
