In 1239, Bishop Raynaud commissioned the construction of Saint-Corentin Cathedral. It was built on the foundations of a Romanesque cathedral. Construction lasted three centuries. In 1410, the choir vaults were completed and the windows were installed. In 1424, construction began on the nave and the two towers of the facade. The reconstruction was completed in 1515. The two towers were finally finished between 1854 and 1856. A distinctive feature is its kink in the main axis. The reason for this design element is unclear. Several theories exist. One suggests that it emphasizes the crucifix. Another posits that it is due to the stability of the foundation. Yet another suggests that the kink reflects the inclined head of the crucified Jesus. Following the completion of renovations in December 1999, the cathedral can now be admired as it was decorated at the end of the 15th century. The same colors as in the original, i.e., ochre yellow and ochre red, were used in lime plaster on the rib vaults. Numerous chapels are situated around the chancel, dating from various periods between the 13th and 16th centuries. Excerpts from https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathedrale_Saint-Corentin

Not exactly a highlight for road cyclists. But still a beautiful building.

Here is information about Jean-Marie le Bris from Wikipedia: Jean Marie Le Bris was a sailor and sea captain who observed albatrosses on his voyages around the world. Although he sailed around the world, his passion was flying. He caught several birds and analyzed their wings in the airstream. He used the term "aspiration" to describe this aerodynamic lift.[1] Le Bris then built a glider based on the shape of the albatross. He called the glider "L'Albatros artificial." His flight tests took place in December 1856 on the beach at Sainte-Anne-la-Palud in the Finistère department. The glider was pulled into the air against the wind by a running horse. The machine is said to have reached a height of 100 meters and flown for about 200 meters. During these first attempts, however, due to inadequate control around the lateral axis, a crash landing occurred, during which Le Bris broke his leg.[2] Le Bris invented his own wing control system, which allowed the angle of attack of the wings to be varied. This innovation was part of his 1857 patent. With the help of the French Navy, he built a second glider, the Albatros II, in 1868. Three launch attempts in Brest, however, were not particularly successful, even though the aircraft was lighter and had a weight-shifting system. During an unmanned gliding test, the Albatros II crashed and was completely destroyed.[3] His Albatros II was the first heavier-than-air aircraft to be photographed. A picture labeled PÉPIN fils, Phot shows Le Bris and the aircraft on the ground in 1868.[4] Mount Bris, a mountain in Antarctica, is named in Le Bris's honor.
