A good place to take a break

The Château de la Hunaudaye immerses you in the medieval era. With its five towers, its still-flooded moats, and its modern footbridges, the visit reveals surprising views. It's an ideal site to explore with family or with those who love old buildings.

Place du Martray is surrounded by perfectly preserved half-timbered houses. Here you'll find the Maison du Bourreau, recognizable by its red beams. It's a pleasant place to take a break or begin a tour of the historic center via Rue du Four.

The path going straight past Ville Plan (the farm) is closed. You have to go around it by a small dirt road that goes around it.

The castle was built around 1688 for Charles Gouyon and has a French garden where the perimeter wall and watchtowers are still preserved. Isolated in the valley of the Frémur river, in the south of the municipality of Fréhel, stands the Vaurouault castle, which belongs to the Gouyon du Vaurouault family. For information: the castle is privately owned and cannot be visited. It was built around 1688 for Charles Gouyon, Captain General of the Coast Guard of Matignon and Governor of Fort la Latte, by the architect Simon Garengeau. Today, only the perimeter wall and his sloops remain of his French garden. The buildings were built using rubble stone made of sandstone, slate and granite.
