10月 3, 2025, River Hase
A little information from the internet: From the Teutoburg Forest to the Emsland The Hase River is the most important tributary of the Ems. It rises in the Osnabrück Hills and then flows through the northwest German lowlands. The Hase River and its tributaries vary accordingly. Its waters flow over limestone, sandstone, sand and clay, and terminal moraine landscapes and moorland regions. The Hase's water network provides a habitat not only for a wide variety of animal and plant species, but also for people who have settled here over the millennia. Cities such as Osnabrück, Bramsche, Quakenbrück, Löningen, Haselünne, and Meppen have developed. On its way between the Teutoburg Forest and the Ems, the Hase flows through five districts, the independent city of Osnabrück, and 16 municipalities.

It's worth stopping here. The ice cream parlor at the foot of the church is highly recommended. The ice cream and cakes are delicious.

To access the outdoor area, you have to ride your bike behind the row of houses. Delicious cakes and very friendly service.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to enter the grounds. It looks great from the outside and we're curious to visit.

3月 8, 2025, Wasserschloss und Gut Loxten
The Felddieksboll motte to the south may have been the castle's predecessor. Loxten Castle was built in 1474 by Johann von Dinklage on an existing farm, which had presumably been brought into the marriage by his wife, Rixa von Brawe, as a fief of the County of Tecklenburg. His son, also named Johann, was a burgomaster of Quakenbrück Castle but lived in Loxten. In 1649, the Dinklage line of Loxten died out in the male line, and the property passed through marriage in 1653 to Captain Franz von Frydag zu Buddenburg. His son sold the property to Christian Günther von Hammerstein in 1682. He had the present castle built between 1691 and 1698. The Barons von Hammerstein-Loxten still live on the property, which was renovated in 1921/22.

2月 26, 2025, Kessen Ülk und Minchen Fountain
The fountain with the figures of the two Quakenbrück originals "Kessen Ülk and Minchen" created by the Aachen artist Bonifatius Stirnberg welcomes you in Lange Straße. The two lived in the Quakenbrück poorhouse and earned their meager living by weaving baskets or as day laborers. Because of their "drinking passion," they were exposed to general ridicule, especially that of children, but they were simply part of the cityscape. https://www.artland.de/portal/seiten/poggenpad-900000243-31440.html

2月 26, 2025, Hohe Pforte City Gate Quakenbrück
The Hohe Pforte (High Gate) in Quakenbrück is the only surviving city gate in the city. It was built in 1485 and originally served as one of five gates providing access to the city. The Hohe Pforte (High Gate) was the northern exit and was built on wooden piles with rubble stone. The gate, with its Baroque bell tower, has four floors, with the lowest floor being an open passageway. The original Romanesque basket arches were replaced in the mid-19th century with taller Gothic pointed arches to accommodate larger vehicles. The gate has a fascinating history, having also served as a prison for quarrelsome women and as a city jail. The building was extensively renovated in 1999. https://www.osnabruecker-land.de/erlebnisse/hohe-pforte-historisches-stadttor
