The Church of St. James the Elder in the Glane district of Bad Iburg is an important Roman Catholic parish church with a long history. A small church is first mentioned on this site in 1088, and it was expanded several times over the centuries. A larger church was consecrated in 1356 in honor of the Apostle James the Elder, but this structure was destroyed by lightning in 1875. After a failed attempt to build a replacement, the foundation stone for the present neo-Gothic hall church, constructed of hewn sandstone, was laid in 1904 and consecrated in 1905. The 68-meter-high tower with its octagonal spire and four pyramidal peaks is particularly striking. Inside, traditional and modern design elements are combined following a renovation in 2009, and old works of art, such as a Gothic Pietà, enrich the sacred space.

The church is a single-nave church in the Gothic style and is built of rubble stone. It is oriented in a north-south direction and can accommodate approximately 400 worshippers.
