The patronage of this place of worship “Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption” refers to one of the many memorial or festival days in honor of Mary, Mother of God. The Gulf of Chiuni is part of the Vicolais coastline, a coast which was very frequented between the 16th and 18th centuries by Barbary pirates.
