Be sure to continue hiking up to Paglia Orba and enjoy the beautiful views. Unfortunately, the path is not really marked and you have to climb at a grade 2 level. But the views make up for the effort.

I initially tried staying at Refuge Tighiettu but they told me there were no more spare tents for hire so walked to Bergerie de Ballone instead and I'm so glad I did! I hired a tent and it came with an actual mini mattress and I slept really well. I had the best dinner on the trail and the staff were super super friendly. Also, HOT SHOWER! Great experience overall.

Haut Asco is a ski resort and the refuge has many beds which meant I got to have a whole dormitory to myself even during the peak season in August! There is also a hotel nearby and it has a really nice restaurant and a little shop that sells many essentials as well as fresh fruit and bread. I ate dinner at the refuge (€19, veggie soup, Corsican veal stew pasta, and cheese for dessert) and it was probably one of the best dinners I had so far at this point. There was an information session about the next stage (in French) which was helpful.

At the Bergerie de Radule you can have a good breakfast: coffee, chocolate cake, Corsican omelet (with cheese in it). Here, too, we noticed: Corsicans are often unfriendly, at least grumpy.

I can't add much to that: the Refuge has good espresso and self-squeezed orange juice(!), Corsican omelettes and much more. Next to it a restaurant (and yes: you don't want to eat pasta every night!) and a snack bar - we were very satisfied with so much choice! 🙂

Nice Bergerie, the food is highly praised. - However: the landlord does not respond to overnight requests :-/ neither to (multiple) emails (in English, French, German) nor to (multiple) text messages, WhatsApp nor does he answer phone calls (because it is a foreign area code?).

The Carrozzu refuge is the second refuge on the GR20 north (from Calenzana). It is possible to take hot showers or bathe in the nearby stream. It is a large-sized refuge with 36 beds and campsites all around. With the mountains all around you and a view of the sea, this hideaway is a magical place to stop and maybe stay a while.

Very nicely located Bergerie, where you can stay the night instead of the Tighiettu Refuge. We at least had breakfast there on the terrace. It is very cozy and the coffee and the omelettes with Corsican cheese were delicious. Nice view from the terrace of the surrounding mountains. Of course there are also toilets and drinking water.
