元々はロマネスク様式の礼拝堂は、今日では巨大なシャガールの窓をはじめ、数多くの作品を収蔵する博物館となっています。 この窓の物語は興味深いものです。1970年、礼拝堂に隣接する老朽化した建物を解体することが決定されました。その後、礼拝堂は修復されました。解体により、礼拝堂は東側が開いた状態になりました。マルク・シャガールは、1976年に完成した「平和の窓」と呼ばれるステンドグラスでその開口部を閉じるよう依頼されました。

Saverne was already a Roman military post in the 4th century. From the 15th century until the French Revolution, Saverne was the residence of the powerful bishops of Strasbourg. The Château de Rohan, which boasts the longest neoclassical façade of any building in France, still bears witness to this.
