2月 10, 2026, Chapelle Saint-Thomas-Becket
When we encounter the patronage of Saint Thomas, most people outside Great Britain probably think involuntarily of the time of Christ, some two thousand years back. This is because one of the twelve apostles whom Jesus called to follow him bears this name. In the Gospels, he is known as "Didymos," which means "twin" in Greek. In this case, however, the chosen patronage refers to Saint Thomas Becket (1118–1170), also known as Thomas of Canterbury after the place of his episcopal see and martyrdom. Canterbury Cathedral (Kent, England) can be visited—at least virtually—via the komoot system at the following link: =>> https://www.komoot.com/de-de/highlight/231266

Very nice complex, although only a fraction of the original buildings are still there. 3D tour is highly recommended as it gives a good impression of the earlier buildings

The Maladrerie Saint-Thomas-Becket is a former leper colony founded in the 12th century by the monks of the abbey of Fécamp. You can admire the remains of the chapel dedicated to Saint Thomas Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury who was assassinated by King Henry II of England in 1170. You can also discover the archaeological remains of a building and a paved pool in inside the enclosure. It is a peaceful and scenic walk that will take you back in time and immerse you in the medieval atmosphere of this place.

L'édifice est classé au titre des monuments historiques le 15 Mars 1918. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89glise_Saint-Valentin_de_Jumi%C3%A8ges "The church was built in the 12th century at the request of the Abbey of Saint-Pierre de Jumièges. A renovation was carried out in the 16th century, including the choir, which was rebuilt in Renaissance style but was unfinished. The church is a parish church after the French Revolution. The building was classified as a historic monument in 1918." The church is in the middle of the cemetery and must have been planned to be much larger. The different architectural styles and the wooden tower in the middle are exciting.

The monastery's origins date back to 645. The Vikings burned it down in 841. Over time, however, it became one of the most influential monasteries in France. Until the French Revolution brought an end to this power and also to the monastery itself. Mainly remains of the two impressive churches have been preserved. But the gatehouse, the new apartment and the bakery are also still in the extensive park. Information in German here: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abtei_Jumièges Please note the opening times when visiting. We were surprised by the lunch break from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
