Stob na Broige is the Munro at the south western end of Buachaille Etive Mòr. It is usually approached from Stob Coire Altrium having first climbed up to the higher Munro, Stob Dearg. When I first climbed Buachaille Etive Mòr, this wasn’t a Munro, then the SMC fiddled with their list and it became one. I had to come back and climb the whole ridge to include it but I have been back since and repeated them again and I now feel Stob na Broige justifies its Munro status

We've just marched up from Dalness. Went great. When the weather is nice, it's easy/with relatively little effort to see the Bidean.

As one of the UK's most famous and accessible Munros, it attracts countless walkers and nature lovers every year. Thanks to the high parking lot and funicular, the summit is an attainable yet challenging destination for many. Taking the funicular up to Ptarmigan Restaurant, the highest restaurant in Britain, makes the climb much easier and offers a unique way to enjoy the stunning scenery without having to walk the entire way. For the more adventurous, Fiacaill Ridge, a Grade II scramble, offers an exciting alternative to the traditional trail. The summit itself presents a panorama that is second to none. From up here you have a wonderful view over the national park, revealing the vastness and beauty of the Scottish Highlands in all their glory. The view extends over endless ranges of hills, deep valleys and the characteristic waters dotted with islands. However, the weather in the Cairngorms can be unpredictable. Warm clothing, even in summer, is a must as it can get very cold at altitude. Wind and fog can suddenly appear, which is why good preparation and carrying navigation aids such as a map and compass are essential. GPS devices provide additional security, but should not be used as the sole guide. Hikers should respect local Cairngorms National Park regulations and act environmentally consciously to preserve this unique place for future generations. Understanding and respecting nature are essential aspects when exploring this extraordinary mountain.

Despite being the ninth highest Munro, Càrn Mòr Dearg is best known for the rocky, narrow ridge that connects to its rather burly neighbour, Ben Nevis. It's perhaps the quality of its famous ridge and its proximity to the biggest mountain in the land that means Càrn Mòr Dearg's summit is rarely the main objective. However, a fine summit it is! It's relatively remote and takes a good deal of effort regardless of starting point. In terms of ascents, its east ridge gives good entertainment, while the more serious east ridge of Càrn Dearg Meadhonach is another good option. However, most access the summit from Coire Leis, via a steep slog up its western flanks.

Càrn Mòr Dearg is most famous for the CMD Arête, an arcing, narrow, rocky ridge that connects its summit to Ben Nevis. Much less frequented is this eastern ridge, which gives an interesting ascent to the summit from the wilds of Coire Giubhsachan. It can then be combined with an adventure on the famous arête, should the mood take you. Grassy to begin with, the ridge narrows and becomes rockier towards the top, though it's never overly technical. Its wild setting gives a great sense of adventure, while you might find yourself eying up the neighbouring East ridge of Càrn Dearg Meadhonach, an excellent grade II winter ascent.

A classic low-grade mountaineering line, a journey along a snow-covered Càrn Mòr Dearg Arête is unforgettable. The sagging ridgeline, hung dramatically between the summits of Càrn Mòr Dearg and Ben Nevis, offers a continuous grade I winter traverse, revealing astonishing views across towards Ben Nevis. While the technicality is low, the outing is long and serious, so a dawn start is a must.

11月 26, 2023, Tower Ridge

One of Britain's greatest and longest winter mountaineering ridges, Tower Ridge is serious business. A Scottish grade IV winter route, it's an intimidating prospect and calls for a high level of experience. The two main cruxes are the Eastern Traverse and Tower Gap. The Eastern Traverse is a vertigo-inducing ledge on the left side of the Great Tower, while Tower Gap is a 10-foot (3 m) gap on a particularly narrow section of the ridge beyond the Great Tower.

The Charles Inglis Clarke Memorial Hut (usually referred to as the CIC Hut) is an alpine-style mountain hut in the shadow of Ben Nevis' immense North Face. Owned by the Scottish Mountaineering Club, it gives mountaineers quick access to the many excellent routes on the face. It was built in 1928 by the parents of Charles Inglis Clark, who was killed during the First World War. Surprisingly given its location, there are 26 alpine beds, a full kitchen, a composting toilet and even a drying room. It's possible to stay at the hut, but advanced booking is essential as it is very popular, particularly in winter.

Ben Nevis is Britain's highest mountain and arguably its greatest from a mountaineering perspective too. This is mostly down to its immense North Face, a treasure trove of ridges, buttresses and gullies that climbers have been testing themselves on for generations. Leaving the summit in poor visibility during winter poses significant dangers due to the cornices that form on the Ben's gullies. The safest way off is to walk on a bearing of 231 degrees for 492 feet (150 m) from the summit trig point. Then, walk on a bearing of 282 degrees to intercept the zig zags of the Pony Track.

11月 7, 2023, Schiehallion Summit

Schiehallion is one of the most famous Munros and also one of the most straightforward (in good weather). The iconic cone shape visible from Loch Rannoch isn't so clear on the normal ascent as you run up the ridge from the Braes of Foss car park, but the views from the top are awesome. Easy well-made trail for the first two thirds, then a less clear boulder field summit. Almost always run as an out and back, but you can descend or ascend the steep side to create a much more epic adventure run. It's about 5km and 700m of ascent from the Braes of Foss car park to the 1,083m summit.

Stob na Doire is a mountain on the ridgeline of Buachaille Etive Mòr. This summit is connected to the others via some beautiful and technical alpine trails, which give a true remote mountain feeling, as well as some flawless views over Glen Etive and Glen Coe.

Stob Coire Altruim is a part of Buachaille Etive Mor, with a height of 938 metres. The peak is largely grassy, with a distinct flat, rocky summit.

Stob na Bròige is a summit on the Glen Etive end of Buachaille Etive Mòr, with a summit height of 956 metres. As of 1997, the peak is now classified as its own Munro, so it's worth popping over to it while you're on top of the ridge if you're into bagging Munros.

A subsiduary summit of the Bidean nam Bian, and part of the ridgeline leading down to Coire nan Lochan and the lost valley. The steep ridgelines and gullies in this area are a staple for Scottish Winter Mountaineering, as well as providing some great terrain for some wild mountain-running & hiking.

Bidean nam Bian is the highest of the peaks surrounding Glencoe. The mountain itself is built up of many complex summits and ridges - notably the summit of Stob Coire Sgreamhach, a Munro itself. At 1,150 metres, rocky summit and ridges provide committing, varied and technical mountain running, and a true mountain day out.
