Can be busy but really nice and gravelly track after the bridge. It is not deep but you can sort of take a dip.

6月 29, 2025, Portland Bill Lighthouse
The lighthouse in Portland, southern England, is an impressive landmark that is both historically and architecturally fascinating. Built in the 19th century, it has served as an important landmark for ships in the bay ever since. Its clifftop location offers stunning views of the sea and surrounding coastal scenery. The lighthouse is a popular photo opportunity and an interesting destination for visitors interested in learning more about the region's maritime history. Overall, it is a charming and significant symbol of Portland!

A wonderful area. Breathtaking views of the cliffs and the sea; it's worth coming here for hiking and, in the summer, definitely for swimming. I recommend staying at the nearby Durdle Door Holiday Park.

12月 7, 2024, Durweston Mill
Using the power of moving water to drive a mill wheel is an ancient invention of the human spirit of discovery, the origins of which can be traced back to times long past. Thanks to such a construction, a watercourse - natural or artificial - could simply replace human or animal muscle power with the power of the natural elements, for example to grind grain into corn or to press oil from fruit. There are essentially two different ways of driving watermills: * Either the flowing water simply hits the blades of the water wheel from below to set it in motion; or * the water is guided - usually through a so-called "mill channel" - above the wheel and falls onto the blades; this type of construction is more efficient due to natural gravity.

The highest point on the south coast of England. quite the lung opener and leg burner to reach. well worth it with the views though. Just be careful near the cliff edge. Constantly eroding away.

Kayakers often drive through the small cave. It is beautiful to look at and the colorful kayaks with the turquoise sea make a beautiful photo opportunity

8月 11, 2024, Old Harry Rocks
Studland Bay is dominated by one of the south coast's most famous landmarks - Old Harry. It is part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and is managed by the National Trust. The chalk formations are popularly known as Old Harry Rocks, but the name Old Harry actually refers to the single chalk rock that stands furthest out to sea. Until 1896 there was another boulder called Old Harry's Wife, but erosion caused it to collapse into the sea, leaving only a stump. https://www.visit-dorset.com/listing/old-harry-rocks/130693301/

The shop sells seasonal gifts, children’s toys, books and sustainable homewares, as well as outdoor and walking equipment for both you and your four-legged friend. There is an information and visitor reception point next to the shop, where a member of the National Trust team is generally on-hand to assist with any enquiries.

7月 5, 2024, Portland Bill Lighthouse
The Trinity House Obelisk, also known as the Trinity House Landmark, is a 19th-century obelisk located at Portland Bill, on the Isle of Portland, Dorset, England. Built as a daymark, it has been Grade II Listed since 1978.[1] The obelisk was built in 1844 to warn ships off the coast of Portland Bill. It stands at the southern tip of the Isle of Portland, acting as a warning of the low shelf of rock extending 30 metres south into the sea. The obelisk is made of Portland stone and is seven metres in height. It is inscribed "TH 1844" on its north face. The monument was saved from threatened demolition in 2002 after Trinity House deemed it too expensive to maintain.

6月 7, 2024, Portland Bill Lighthouse
Portland Bill is a narrow promontory (or bill) at the southern end of the Isle of Portland, and the southernmost point of Dorset, England. One of Portland's most popular destinations is Portland Bill Lighthouse. Portland's coast has been notorious for the number of shipwrecked vessels over the centuries. The dangerous coastline features shallow reefs and the Shambles sandbank, made more hazardous due to the strong Portland tidal race. The Bill is an important way-point for coastal traffic, and three lighthouses have been built to protect shipping. The original two worked as a pair from 1716, and they were replaced in 1906 by the current one.

The lighthouse is open to visitors and it is possible to climb the steep steps during a guided tour. From the top you can enjoy impressive views across the english channel and watch yachts and fishing boats navigate a dangerous stretch of water, known as the Portland Race. If you’re feeling peckish after exploring the lighthouse, the Lobster Pot is the ideal place to stop for a bite to eat. It is incredibly popular and renowned locally for its impressive service and simple yet delicious menu. the cost of entry to lighthouse is £8.50
