ONE OF THE OLDEST ALPINE HOUSES IN THE CANTON OF FREIBURG La Buvette du Gros-Plané consists of a chalet built at the beginning of the 19th century, making it one of the oldest alpine huts in the canton of Fribourg. Burned down in 1921, the chalet was completely rebuilt a year later, in 1922. For 43 years, Mrs. Progin and her husband have been running the diner inherited from Mr. Progin's great-grandparents. In fact, for more than 4 generations, visitors have come to taste the specialties of the Gruyère region, prepared in an artisanal way by the Progin family. With their own cattle, they produce their own milk and make various traditional homemade cheeses such as Sérac, Gruyère d'alpage and Vacherin. Very popular summit as it is easily accessible via the funicular to Plan-Francey and from there by cable car to Moléson. From the mountain station, the summit is only about 200m away with a good 30 meters in altitude. Most of the time there are many people on the mountain. A little further away from the mountain station you have peace and quiet again.

We took the funicular and cable car to the top, and you are greater with an amazing view. It is an easy climb to the top of Le Moleson, and well worth the detour. The first part of the hike down is steep, with some loose rubble,. The route does get easier and then you are treated to lovely fresh smells whilst walking through the trees and the flowers are colourful.

The view from the top of the Moléson on a clear day is truly incredible. You can admire the Gruyère Pre-Alps, the Vaudois, Savoyard and Bernese Alps. Among the emblematic summits, the Becca d'Audon or Oldenhorn, the Diablerets, the Dent de Morcles, the Tour d'Aï and the Tour des Mayens, the Dents du Midi... In addition, the restaurant is very well run with an efficient and motivated staff, but sometimes a little stressed (and that's normal!) in the face of the crowds. The place to visit in the Friborg Prealps!
