8月 24, 2025, Lac d'Arpitettaz
I did this hike in early May 2024, just a few days after the ski season was over and the slopes had closed. The valley was completely deserted and it felt magical! The peaks were still covered in snow, but the first signs of spring were beckoning. On the final stretch to Lac d'Arpitetta, I was wading through snow up to my knees. Without proper gear I couldn’t get any farther than the small lake. The view on that crystal-clear spring day was absolutely fantastic! Check the picture I uploaded with all the peak names added.

If you climb the Üssere Barrhorn, you can also "take" the Inneres Barrhorn with little extra effort. The descent can then also be made via the Schöllijoch

Well located hut to continue either to the Cabane de Tracuit or to the Barrhorn.

1月 24, 2024, Cabane d'Arpitettaz
A pretty cabin located at an altitude of over 2700m at the foot of the Weisshorn. The cabin is right in front of the glacier, so you can observe it up close. Updates: A storm swept away a footbridge under the Arpitettaz refuge (summer trail). A detour has been set up. The journey time has been slightly extended. In 2024, the cabin will be guarded from March 16 to May 2 and from June 23 to September 20.

1月 24, 2024, Lac d'Arpitettaz
Lake Arpitettaz is a small mountain lake on the road to Cabane d’Arpitettaz. If you don't want to go to the Cabin, you can also make a loop to return to Zinal via the Roc de la Vache from the Lake. However, there is a trick to getting to Lac d’Arpitettaz from Zinal. If you stay on the right bank of the river, you will have to take a difficult and steep passage called “Pas du Chasseur” where you will have to hang on to chains for part of the way. This is not ideal, especially if you have young children. Instead, stay on the left bank of the river towards the Cabane du Petit Mountet and from there follow the direction of Lac d'Arpitettaz. You will cross the river on a pretty modern bridge. This will add an extra 10 minutes to your hike but above all you will have peace of mind and be able to see the Zinal Waterfall. It's really worth the detour.

If you are already on the "Üssers Barrhorn" this little extra effort is definitely worth it

5月 17, 2023, Mountain Shelter
A shelter (mountain hut, shelter, in Switzerland and Tyrol also hospice) serves in undeveloped areas to protect against storms and heavy snowfall. Shelters can be managed or unmanaged. Some refuges do not offer overnight accommodation, but many offer a winter room for the non-serviced season. (Source: Wikipedia)

6月 3, 2022, Pas de Chasseur
Via ferrata level T5, very steep ascent and partly vertical passages (chain to help). Very strenuous (it's better if you don't have a head for heights) but it's a lot of fun.

7月 15, 2021, View of the Zinal Glacier
Wonderful view of the glacier tongue of the Zinal Glacier, which is framed by high 3,000 m peaks. The high lateral moraine of the Zinal glacier shows how large the glacier once was. The front part of the glacier tongue down in the valley is formed by dead ice covered by glacial debris. Under the protection of the rock material worn away by the glacier, the ice lasts for a very long time. In the upper part of the glacier you can also see the serac zone with the large cracks and chasms that form under the ice sheet in the glacier when the relief changes. (Source: Viking Travel)

7月 15, 2021, View of Tête de Millot and Turtmann Glacier
Like all other high valleys in the region, the rocky slope was once covered by ice masses. After the glaciers retreated, the impressive hollow forms of the high valleys remained, together with the masses of rubble that the glaciers had left behind, and the majestic, bizarre and rugged shapes of the summit regions remained - jagged ridges, steeply sloping rock faces in the summit areas. Behind the rocky slope you can see a steep edge that is dominated to the right by the summit of Tete de Millot. To the left of this you can see the foothills of the Turtmann Glacier. 7月 15, 2021, Roc de la Vache
Individual spikes of the Roc de la Vache slide forward into the valley like viewing pulpits and allow wonderful views of the entire Val d'Annivers, with the villages of Zinal and Ayer in the foreground, as well as Grimenez on the other side of the valley. Towards the end of the valley you look directly at the glacier tongue of the Zinal glacier and from the deep hollow with the mighty lateral moraines you can clearly see how far the glacier has retreated in recent decades. Further to the left you can see the Serrac zone of the Momming Glacier, which stretches over some steep edges, which breaks the ice masses. As a result, the horizontal breaks and crevices are formed. Important NOTE: Be careful on the steep edge of the Roc de la Vache. Here it goes almost 1,000 m vertically down into the valley.
