The Petra Piana is a very small refuge, perched on the mountainside, which dates back to 1971. If you plan to sleep there, you must book your night online, on the PNRC (Corsican Regional Natural Park) website. The refuge is situated above = higher up than the bergeries where the guardien lives. The tent spaces are next to the bergeries (downhill from the refuge) in an enclosure to keep cattle and wild pigs away. Refuge has 16 beds, kitchen, toilet behind the refuge in separate small building.

These sheepfolds are magnificent. Clinging to a small mountainside and very well maintained, they are truly picturesque. They were closed when we were there, but we still lingered to admire them and take a look.
