This superb so-called semi-rock church has three levels. These Romanesque frescoes and its troglodyte appearance give this 10th century religious building a special place. The place is more splendid.

A nice stretch to get you into Pamiers. An old, abandoned, railroad which you can follow straight into Pamiers. Not in such a good shape as the better know 'Voie Verte' but still a good ride.

Really nice single track through a woodland area that sits right next to the river L'Hers - t'is great spot to stop and cool off in the summer months!

Romanesque semi-rock church from the 10th century in the town of Vals

Dominating the small village of Vals is Sainte-Marie rock church, a mysterious and unusual group of buildings carved out of the rock. Accessible via a staircase built through a cleft in the rock, the building consists of two naves on top of each other and houses some splendid Romanesque frescoes depicting episodes from the life of Christ. The church also has a terrace with a fantastic view over the surrounding countryside and the Ariège Pyrenees. Not to be missed!

Brilliant singletrack following the river for mountain or gravel bikes. Can get a bit sticky in places, a couple tricky bits but mostly flowy and fun!
