A medieval village clinging to a rocky outcrop, a historic center of Lauragais, Fanjeaux retains traces of its rich past: in the 13th century, Fanjeaux was at the center of preaching against the Cathar heresy. Dominique de Guzman (Saint Dominic), installed in Fanjeaux from 1206 to 1215, tried by his preaching to bring back to the Roman Catholic Church, the local nobility acquired from the Cathar Church.
