A "chemin de halage", in German "treidelpfad", which runs alongside the waterway right next to the bed of the river or canal, was an indispensable part of the transport infrastructure in earlier times. Before ships could move using motor power, horses ran along the bank and pulled the ship against the current. This was called "treideln", and this is how the "treidelpfads" got their name, which has been passed down to this day. Where these paths directly on the bank have been preserved, they are often used by hikers and cyclists.

This towpath takes place on a very pleasant and green unpaved path. That said, after prolonged rains it can get quite muddy. In this case, take the parallel road to avoid the soft and greasy terrain.

Last vestige of the four gates opened in the walls of the fortifications that surrounded the lower town, built from 1355 to 1359. The gate was rebuilt in its current state in 1779 on its original site.

Is a little above Montolieu and from above and even better from the path to the chapel you have beautiful views of the place.
