Time and again, the trees reveal views of the impressive expanse of water. The dense spruce forests that cling to the slopes are reminiscent of a mountain lake in the Rocky Mountains. Fabulous!

Monument to Duke Ernst II of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, inaugurated in 1903 and renovated by the Oberhof Citizens' Guard in 1997. The doe and fawn indicate that the duke was a passionate hunter.

The Ohratalsperre was built between 1960 and 1966 and today supplies over 400,000 residents with drinking water and generates 400 KW of electricity through hydropower. There is a circular hiking trail around the dam and two foredams. Places worth seeing around the dam are the Kulissenfelsen, the Gerastollen and many great views of the dam. A visit, whether for hiking or cycling, is always worthwhile.
