On the edge of the charming Champagne village of Hautvillers lies a small, peaceful municipal cemetery. It's not a large cemetery, but it's full of character: simple headstones, often with weathered crosses, surrounded by vineyards and overlooking the Marne Valley. Here you can experience the tranquil atmosphere of the village known as the birthplace of Champagne. The cemetery is a beautiful, peaceful respite during a walk through Hautvillers and is within walking distance of the abbey church where Dom Pérignon is buried.

A significant step in Champillon's fame occurred in 1788, when Mr. Nicolas Ricoteau received a concession for a plot of land in the hamlet of Bellevue to build an inn. He had noticed that the radiant sun illuminated the place, even when the valley was shrouded in mist, and that from this spot, travelers enjoyed a magnificent panorama of the region. The first owner of the Auberge Neuve, now Royal-Champagne, was also attracted by the frequent passing stagecoaches and carriages, whose horses, tired from a long climb, had to be relieved and whose thirsty drivers clung to them to quench their thirst. It was a staging post for Napoleon the day after the Battle of Reims (1814).

Located on the edge of a pond, this peaceful site, complete with a playground, is ideal for relaxation and family time. A large, charming footbridge crosses the pond. In the unspoiled surroundings, the Rinsillons botanical trail allows young and old alike to discover twenty plant species along the way and play "Who's the odd one out?" The historic vineyards of Hautvillers are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Hillsides, Houses, and Cellars of Champagne.
