Latest leg of the West Midlands Way - Running from Lichfield to Tamworth. A deviation from the guide book, but I needed to take advantage of the rail network. A decent walk that crosses HS2 land (successfully), a firing range (check the MOD page for Whittington) and then through marvellous woods, a canal and the river Tame to arrive in Tamworth. Ferryside - a quiet little place with a railway station, cafe and a pub of odd opening hours. This walk heads over the Wales Coast Path - aiming for Llansaint. We decided not to venture through more mud to get there. Conditions may be better when you try it. Figure of 8 walk in Dylan Thomas footsteps. The estuary side parts of the route are mainly OK but plenty of mud / brambles / fallen trees on the inland sections. Refreshments hard to find on a midday weekday. All pubs and cafes closed up. The chipper and one restaurant were open. Ironic for a man that liked to be refreshed.
