Old castles and magnificent cathedrals, idyllic vineyards and vast orchards, extensive river meadows and wild forests: heritage, culture, beautiful landscapes and wild nature go hand in hand on the Saale Cycle Path. 🌿🚴♀️🏰 The outdoor blogger Fräulein Draußen (Miss Outdoors) took to the trails and reports on her experiences in this Collection:
‘The complete route is around 400 kilometres (25o mi) long and leads from the Saale’s source in the Fichtel Mountains through Bavaria, Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt to the mouth of the Elbe. I rode most of the route through Saxony-Anhalt in three days.
On this section, the riding is a bit more relaxed than on the southern part, as the landscape is flatter and the elevation gain is limited. The route mainly follows cycle paths and gravel roads, while the road sections are short, and usually, on small side roads. Gravel or touring bikes are both equally suitable.
The route’s logistics are also simple. Accommodation is plentiful and at regular intervals – from hotels to camping sites – and beer gardens, cafes and supermarkets also dot the route.
