Le palais doit son aspect actuel principalement aux reconstructions néogothiques réalisées entre 1861 et 1877 sous la direction de Sofia Kaissarowa, fille du comte Zubov. Les derniers propriétaires nobles furent sa petite-fille Sofia Waxell et son époux portugais José Carlos de Faria e Castro.
