    Le monastère de Mariwawald sera malheureusement fermé courant 2018. Les dix moines qui vivent encore ici sont désormais très âgés et ne peuvent plus faire fonctionner le monastère sans soutien. De plus, les entreprises du monastère ne génèrent plus assez d'argent pour financer le monastère. Une autre utilisation du bâtiment est actuellement en discussion. On souhaite qu'il continue à être un lieu spirituel qui honore des siècles de tradition.

    Ici, à l'abbaye de Mariawald, il y a la meilleure soupe aux pois maison (bénédiction de Dieu). Mon conseil : Depuis Heimbach, empruntez le sentier de randonnée balisé (chaussures résistantes obligatoires) jusqu'à Mariawald. Récompensez-vous avec une soupe aux pois et une bière de moine fraîche, puis revenez en randonnée. Belle excursion d'une journée. (Attention : déconseillé par beau temps en raison de la surpopulation)

    L'abbaye elle-même est un monastère parmi tant d'autres, et la soupe aux pois est délicieuse.
    Il y a pas mal de choses à acheter dans la boutique du monastère, mais pas très bon marché, comme quatre types de bière différents, dont l'un est fabriqué exclusivement pour l'abbaye par la brasserie Bitburger selon sa propre recette.
    L'abbaye sera fermée prochainement, mais le restaurant et la boutique du monastère continueront de fonctionner.
