Amnesty International, l'organisation de défense des droits de l'homme (également lauréate du prix Nobel de la paix), a un groupe local à Geesthacht depuis de nombreuses années.
Pour le 800e anniversaire de la ville de Geesthacht, Amnesty a pu concrétiser l'idée d'un parcours des droits de l'homme à Geesthacht. Entre la péninsule d'Elbe, la place Rouge et Fährstieg, 16 panneaux ont été érigés pour fournir des informations sur les droits de l'homme. Il a été officiellement inauguré le 18 août 2016.
