    Der gesamte Straßenzug Alt-Breing steht daher unter Denkmalschutz und ist als besonders regional typischer Ort durch die Arbeitsgemeinschaft historischen Orts kerne in Nordrhein-Westfalen ausgezeichnet.

    Die Gebäude des historischen Ortskerns sind überwiegend mit lokalen Bruch- und Blaustein aus dem nah gelegenen, heute stillgelegten Steinbruch „Schomet“ gebaut worden. Dies zeigt deutlich auf, wie die lokalen Bezüge von Baumaterialien den Straßenraum geprägt haben und noch bis heute prägen. Die Pfarrkirche St. Barbara wurde im 19. Jhd. im „Nazarener Stil“ nach Plänen von Johann Peter Cremer errichtet. Beachtenswerte Bauwerke sind ebenfalls die alten Gutshöfe, wie das Gut Stockem und das Gut Rochenhaus.
