    La zone naturelle compte un grand nombre de zones protégées appartenant à presque toutes les catégories de protection. Seules de petites zones sont désignées comme véritables réserves naturelles, notamment la réserve ornithologique Alter und Neuer See au sud de Sulzheim-Mönchstockheim. Une autre zone plus vaste est l'habitat de la faune et de la flore de la forêt de Dürrfelder et de Sulzheimer, qui est également l'une des plus grandes zones forestières des contreforts du Steigerwald. La zone fait également partie du sanctuaire ornithologique du bassin de Schweinfurt et du nord du Steigerwald Foreland.
