    Ce bâtiment remarquable, fait de briques grises et rouges, a été construit entre 1894 et 1897 en tant que bâtiment administratif des dirigeants coloniaux britanniques.

    Il a ensuite abrité les tribunaux supérieurs du pays jusqu'à ce qu'ils déménagent à Putrajaya.

    À l'époque de la puissance coloniale britannique, le palais abritait le Secrétariat fédéral. L'événement historique le plus marquant a eu lieu le 31 août 1953. La Malaisie a retrouvé son indépendance après une longue période de domination britannique. La Déclaration d'Indépendance a été signée ici. Après l'indépendance de la Malaisie, le bâtiment Sultan Abdul Samad a été utilisé par divers ministères. La Cour suprême se réunit au palais depuis 1909. Le musée du textile a également été récemment installé dans le palais.
