Schloss Kalkum is a historic water castle nestled in the Kalkum district in the northern part of Düsseldorf, Germany. Standing at an elevation of approximately 39 meters, this architectural gem is a remarkable example of Classicism in the Rhineland, located just two kilometers northeast of Kaiserswerth.     Le château de Kalkum est le seul château à douves de Düsseldorf et un exemple exceptionnel d'architecture de château néoclassique en Rhénanie. Le cadre pittoresque sert de lieu de concerts classiques.

    Au milieu du XIXe siècle, le château est devenu célèbre grâce à une longue bataille de divorce entre son propriétaire de l'époque. Le parc du château d'environ 19 hectares, conçu par l'architecte paysagiste Maximilian Friedrich Weyhe comme un jardin paysager anglais, est aujourd'hui une zone de loisirs accessible au public.

    Un vestige préservé est l'ancien pavillon de jardin, qui abrite aujourd'hui un mémorial à l'homme politique Ferdinand Lassalle.

    Le mémorial du château de Kalkum est un lieu chargé d'histoire, dont l'histoire remonte à plus de 1000 ans. Il va de la cour royale au IXe siècle à un siège de chevalier médiéval et un château baroque des comtes de Winkelhausen à la splendide résidence de campagne des comtes et princes de Hatzfeld au XIXe siècle. Une comtesse von Hatzfeld était un grand mécène de Ferdinand Lassalle, pour qui elle a construit un mausolée dans le parc du château qui a survécu jusqu'à ce jour après sa mort.

    Réaménagé dans un style classique entre 1810 et 1820.
