Le bâtiment, anciennement connu sous le nom de « Malakoffturm » (guerre de Kriem), a reçu le nom de « Zeppelinturm » avant la Première Guerre mondiale, lorsque le premier zeppelin a été aperçu au-dessus de Bad Dürkheim.
