    La Hausmannsturm se construyó como defensa y torre de vigilancia fuera del complejo del castillo real, ya que las elevaciones de la cresta Salzgitter al norte no se podían ver desde el castillo. Las tropas atacantes podrían así ser reconocidas y combatidas en una etapa temprana. Durante muchas generaciones ha sido una popular torre de vigilancia con vistas al Brocken.
    En el verano de 2005 se pudo renovar gran parte de la mampostería. Se protegió la parte superior de la muralla de la intemperie y se restauraron las hornacinas del interior de la torre.
