Su historia es antigua, pero el conjunto que vemos hoy es el resultado de varias campañas de construcción y transformación. La capilla románica, integrada en el castillo, data del siglo XII. Su cabecera habría sido posteriormente elevada en el siglo XIV para asumir una función defensiva. El propio castillo experimentó importantes remodelaciones en los siglos XIV, XVI y XVII. Dos puertas fueron especialmente acondicionadas en el recinto en el siglo XVII.
