Ya en 1642, Hendrick Busman colocó la imagen en una ermita exactamente en este punto. Hasta el día de hoy se ha mantenido sin cambios en su lugar. La actual Capilla de la Misericordia se construyó alrededor de la ermita original en 1654 de tal manera que los creyentes pueden continuar peregrinando muy cerca de la imagen.
