The "Twelve Weirs" on the River Lathkill are a series of small dams constructed during the Victorian era, primarily for trout fishing purposes. Water from the Ring Pond flows over the Sowter Stone and down to the Aqueduct, which was constructed by Paxton in the late 1830’s and early 1840’s as part of his improvements to Stand Wood. The water continues down through Stand Wood and enters the garden above the Cascade Pond.

The River Lathkill is a winterbourne stream, it dries up over the summer. The Victorian's valued the clear water and excellent trout, so they built a series of weirs to trap the water and provide good fishing. There is a footpath through the woods on the north side of the river, allowing access and viewing of the weirs.

The Sydnop Brook flows down from the pond below Sydnope Hall and into the larger Potter Dam. Below the Potter and Fancy Dam it becomes Warney Brook. The Sydnop Brook is small and tumbling with a nice little waterfall close to the steep and sometimes muddy/slippery path. It's a pretty walk up through the woodland.

The Aqueduct is amongst a handful of impressive water features hosted by Chatsworth House. At the aqueduct, water cascades off the edge of a 'broken' bridge into a pond of water below creating the feel of an infinity pool.

Monsal Dale Weir is a classic picturesque Peak District location. Watch water tumble down the different tiers into a serene rocky pool below.
