This astonishing monument made of small Belgian and French flags marks a place in the First World War where soldiers fell in 1914. A more imposing monument can be found a little further along the same path.

The walk starts from the book village of Redu. The walk is called Passage des Chèvres and is perfectly signposted. The start is near the ESA space centre and at Séchery you end up in a beautiful forest. During the hunting season you should definitely keep an eye on the dates of the hunt. The route runs almost entirely on natural paths.

This is a bronze statue of Flavio de Faveri. it is dedicated to the soldiers from the south-west of France who died in the Ardennes on August 22, 1914. The statue was stolen in 2008 and replaced by a synthetic resin reproduction.

In August 1914, a total of 50 men, women and children were executed here or forced to walk into French machine gun fire; the youngest victim was 18 months old. The executors, the 25th infantry division, officially Grand Ducal Hessian (25th) Division (Großherzoglich Hessian (25.) Division), were afraid that these were Belgian guerillas. The monument was built in 1921, after which a vault was added in 1946 with the remains of the civilian victims of 1914. The 'Minenwerfer' at the monument is of German origin (Rheinmetall) and was used to demolish bunkers and defenses.

This cemetery contains the graves of 1012 German and 593 French soldiers. The cemetery was changed several times until 1958 and no longer resembles much of what it originally was in 1918.
