Μια όμορφη πεζοπορία που συνιστάται και για οικογένειες. Εδώ μπορείτε να παρατηρήσετε και να βιώσετε από κοντά τις «ηφαιστειακές δραστηριότητες» (μοφέτες). Lake Laach in the eastern Volcanic Eifel, near Maria Laach Abbey in the municipality of Glees, is the largest lake in Rhineland-Palatinate. It formed in the caldera of the Laach volcano after its last eruption, which was initially dated to 10,930 BC. Following radiocarbon dating of buried tree trunks carried out in 2021, the date of this eruption was corrected to 11,056 BC; doubts about the accuracy of the new dating have not yet been confirmed. The outgassing observed as mofettes in the southeastern part of the lake is a sign of ongoing volcanism. Source: Wikipedia

The Laacher See area is of volcanic origin🌋. The oval Laacher See 🌊 is the largest lake in Rhineland-Palatinate with around 3.3 km² and a water depth of more than 50 m. The Laacher See and the surrounding lands are owned by the Maria Laach Abbey⛪️. From a scientific point of view, however, the Laacher See is not a maar or a real crater lake, but a water-filled caldera - a crater that was created by a collapse after the magma chamber below the volcanic cone was emptied. Small bubbles rise in the water - these so-called mofettes are rising carbon dioxide and illustrate the volcanic history of the lake🌋.
