The Lefthand Trailhead is the main access point for a popular system of mountain biking trails on the eastern end of Lefthand Canyon. More of a large pullout than a true trailhead with a parking lot, there are no bathrooms, picnic area, or water stations here. There are restroom facilities just a little down the road east of here at Buckingham Park if you need them.

Ogallala Road connects 39th and 41st Streets, which all together make a really nice section of smooth, hard-packed gravel through farms and rural houses. You get great views of the foothills from these roads, which are also a nice alternative to connect Niwot to Nelson Roads off of the main highway (36).

This section of the popular Lefthand Canyon is a long, but scenic climb with increasingly good views of the often-snowcapped Indian Peaks the closer you get to Ward. Ward is a tiny mountain town just off the Peak to Peak highway with a cyclist-friendly general store. This section is also super, super fun to fly down, but be aware deer in the road and cars.

The Jamestown Mercantile is a cute, cyclist-friendly cafe in a historic building. There is outside seating both right out front and across the road in the park. They have an expansive menu (https://www.jamestownmercantile.com/menu) and live music and events in the warmer months.

The initial section of Lefthand Canyon from 36 is easier than the upper sections and a great place to warm up the legs for some climbing! As you follow Lefthand Creek, crossing over it a few times, be on the lookout for deer and other wildlife (especially on the descent!), along this scenic road.

The Picture Rock Trailhead is one of several trailheads that grant access to the Heil Valley Ranch Open Space that spans north-south between Boulder and Lyons. At the Picture Rock Trailhead there are 25 parking spots, 3 horse trailer and/ or bus parking spots, and a restroom.

Wildlife, lakes and a backdrop of mountains – Pella Crossing is a wonderful place to explore for some peace and nature. You can ride here from Boulder and any of the surrounding towns, and this is the perfect place for a rest break. On a clear day, the mountain backdrop is stunning.
