It was given to several places in France that were fortified or protected by a religious order, such as the Knights Hospitaller or the Templars. La Sauvetat, in the Puy-de-Dôme department, is one of these places, whose history dates back to the 12th century. It was a commandery of the Knights Hospitaller who built a castle, a church and a hospital there. You can still see some of these buildings today, as well as the medieval bridge that spans the Morge.
