    Die Burg Montaigle gehört zweifelsohne zu den beeindruckendsten Ruinen in Belgien. Auf Befehl von Karl V. wurde der prachtvolle Bau im Jahre 1554 durch französische Truppen geplündert und in Brand gesteckt. Obwohl sie stark zerstört wurde, kannst du bei einem Besuch der Ruine ihre einstigen Ausmaße immer noch erahnen. Von der Wehrmauer und den Überresten der Türme hast du einen tollen Blick ins Tal der Flavion und auf die umliegende Landschaft.

    Die Burg von Montaigle liegt am Zusammenfluss von Molignée und Flavion auf einem steilen Felsen und war am Ende der römischen Besiedlung während des Spätrömischen Reiches (3. bis 5. Jahrhundert) ein Garnisonsort.
    Die Festung wurde zu Beginn des 14. Jahrhunderts auf einem älteren Gebäude von der Familie Dampièrre gegründet, die damals die Grafschaft Namur regierte. Dies war Teil des Erbes des jüngsten Sohnes von Guy von Dampière, Guy von Namur, ebenfalls Regent von Flandern, einer prominenten Figur in der bekannten Schlacht um die Goldenen Sporen.
