Kasteel Rechteren is a historic Dutch castle located southeast of Dalfsen, in the picturesque province of Overijssel, Netherlands. Standing at an elevation of approximately 7 meters, this remarkable landmark holds the distinction of being the only medieval castle in Overijssel that has survived to this day. Uniquely situated on an island within an old arm of the Overijsselse Vecht river, the castle is surrounded by an extensive estate of about 1,200 hectares, featuring diverse landscapes of farmlands, forests, and heathlands.

Im 13. und 14. Jahrhundert stand hier eine berüchtigte Raubritterburg. Der berühmteste Bewohner war Sweder van Heeckeren, ein echter Raubritter. Jeder in der Gegend musste vor ihm auf der Hut sein. Er unternahm Raubzüge in der gesamten Region und war nicht so leicht aufzuhalten.
Im Jahr 1361 hatten die Städte Zwolle, Kampen und Deventer genug. Sie wollten seinen Raubzügen ein Ende setzen. Doch Sweder gab nicht so schnell auf, er schlug mit großer Wucht zurück und steckte sogar die Vororte von Zwolle in Brand.
