    An dieser Stelle überquert der Dyle die alten Stadtmauern. Im 15. Jahrhundert wurde hier bei Zandpoortvest ein beeindruckender Komplex mit 7 Wassermühlen nachgefragt. Diese waren für die Tuchindustrie von großer Bedeutung. Das Holzschleusenhaus regulierte den Wasserstand der Mühlen. Um 1915 wurde das Mühlenhaus in ein Privathaus und eine Snackbar umgewandelt.

    Das Spuihuis oder das Volmolen ist eine ehemalige Wassermühle am Rande des historischen Stadtzentrums von Mechelen. Die Mühle wurde auf der großen Schleuse der Dijle errichtet und diente der Regulierung des Wasserstands der Binnendijle. Die Wassermühle trieb auch mehrere Mühlen an. Von dem weitläufigen Mühlenkomplex an dieser Stelle existieren nur noch das Spuihuis und das Molenhuis aus dem 16. Jahrhundert. Es ist ein geschütztes Denkmal.

    Im Zeitraum 1537-1549 wurden im Spuihuis mindestens vier Frauen als Ketzer hingerichtet. Diese Täufer wurden in eine Tasche genäht und in die Dyle bei der Wassermühle geworfen und ertranken.
