    Das Haus kann regulär besichtigt werden. Man benötigt somit nicht unbedingt Einrittskarten für eine Vorstellung.

    Vor dem Teatro Massimo ist ein großer Platz mit einer Menschenmenge mit Musik und lautem Straßenverkehr. Früher stand hier eine Kirche und das Kloster San Giuliano. Man lies sie abreißen und schaffte Platz für das Opernhaus. Am Haupteingang zum Teatro ist ein Portikus aus sechs korinthischen Säulen vorgelagert. Rechts und links an der Freitreppe liegen zwei Löwenskulpturen.
    Die erste Aufführung war im Jahre 1897 mit Falstaff, Verdis Oper.
