We start the day with remarkably good legs. The wellness and the extensive breakfast have clearly done their job. Today seems easier on paper, but we know: in the Ardennes you can sometimes be disappointed. Nobody said that the Stoneman is easy, so we are happy to take on that challenge.

The sun is just rising as we leave Büllingen. After a short run-up on asphalt, we immediately dive into the forest. The first trail winds through the pines, strewn with roots and stones. We immediately get into the flow, what a treat!

The fourth and, for me, last stage started at the Signal de Botrange, the highest mountain in the three Benelux countries. It was mostly downhill to Malmedy, but there were also some tough climbs. Can you already say it was a favorite stage? I spent my third day of hiking far away from civilization. I hiked through one of the last raised bogs in Europe, the High Fens, and enjoyed the absolute isolation. I was often on the wrong track, because the only way to avoid sinking was on the numerous wooden walkways.

On the second stage, I also cross some pastures and greet curious cows. I pass the carrot museum and historic buildings and enter the High Fens Nature Park. I continue a bit further through the forest over disused railway tracks and then on to Eupen, a very pretty town.
