The last day of our tour begins with a hearty breakfast on the veranda of our Belle Époque guest house. We are served homemade jam and freshly squeezed grapefruit juice. This should make the last 2000 meters of altitude feasible.

For the "royal tour" to the Cime de la Bonette, we choose a day with "imperial weather".

We are tired and wish to be able to leave 1 hour later. But Gaby remains determined: our goal is to arrive early. So we are ready on our bikes at 8.30 a.m. and roll comfortably out of Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne. The sun shines down on us at a fresh 8 degrees Celsius as we pedal the first 800 meters up
