Motorhomes are permitted in the paid parking area for hikers in Wierschem. Unfortunately, the restrooms, like Eltz Castle itself, will be closed from November 1st to March 29th.
A few signs seem to be missing in the first section of the Burgensteig trail... so we continued straight ahead along field paths

A varied circular hike, mostly on narrow paths through fields, forests, and gorges, with fantastic views. Numerous benches are located along the way. We found the gates of Pyrmont Castle closed. The beautifully situated Pyrmont Mill is permanently closed.

The hike starts at the hiking car park at Gasthof Rüppel in Valmetal. Following path V5, first go up the path steeply to the left of the hotel.
